Pecking Order (Farmer x Hayden)

I haven't posted fic on tumblr before, but people have been so unexpectedly lovely about this silly fic on AO3 so I thought I'd share it here too 🐔🐣

House chickens must wear many hats. To Henrietta’s relief, those hats were figurative; she never much cared for the indignities of clothing. Ribbons were another matter, especially ones bestowed on award podiums. She wore those with pride.

But Henrietta was more than a show chicken. She was a house chicken, and that meant she was a pest controller, a therapist, a taskmaster. A friend.

Well, not a friend to all. Hayden was her person, and she didn’t see much need for the rest of them. At least Ryis had a healthy admiration for birds - she let him pet her, on occasion.

The others were hopeless. Balor, Valen, and Errol gave her a wide berth, which was respectful, but none of them ever bothered to bring her treats. Celine did, but she was too nervous to feed Henrietta by hand now.

She hadn’t meant to peck the girl. It was a simple misunderstanding, one a flattened palm would’ve solved.

March was the worst of all. He didn’t address her by name, only as “chicken.” When she pecked him, she meant it.

But then, there was this new person. “The Farmer.”

Henrietta considered the nickname an impertinence. Hayden was the farmer in Mistria. His people had worked this land for generations.

Henrietta Jubilation Featherbottom knew something about legacies. She was a part of the most award winning lineage to ever grace chickendom. She’d raised a whole brood of blue ribbon birds, and she had Hayden to thank for that. Any affront to his honor was an attack on her own good name.

Hayden didn’t seem to mind the other farmer, though. He even let the interloper join game night. He broke the news to her over a bowl of popcorn, as if it was only natural to include this fraud. “Used to be an adventurer before settling down here. Imagine the stories!”

An adventurer indeed. Sounded like a rootless, chickenless existence - more of a rogue than a farmer, if you asked her. When their new guest arrived, Henrietta clucked with all the derision she could muster.

In return, she received a handful of wild berries. Palm flat, and steady.

“Nice to meet you, Henrietta.”

Well mannered. That was a surprise.

Hayden gave Henrietta an encouraging pet. “Isn’t that thoughtful?”

She kept a wary eye on the stranger while she plucked and pecked at the ripened fruit. Hayden rubbed at the back of his neck - a nervous habit.

Why should he be nervous? Henrietta studied his kind face, the one she’d known since she broke out of her egg. He was blushing.

“Ah, she’s made a bit of a mess. Sorry about your hand.”

Henrietta trilled, indignant. She was a dainty eater. Juice stains were to be expected, and his embarrassment degraded them both.

The so-called farmer smiled at Hayden, and gave him a rakish wink. “Better berries than monster blood.”

The cheek! But Hayden seemed quite charmed - he hardly noticed their other guests arriving, and the color never quite left his face. Valen even asked if he was feverish.

Amusing jokes, exciting anecdotes, nice manners… by the end of the night, Henrietta had to concede that this new human was well socialized.

Over the next few weeks, a routine took shape. Sweetwater was the fastest route to the museum from the other farm. On the way, offerings were made: berries for Henrietta, and coffee for Hayden. Not every day, but close. Henrietta often joined them at the kitchen table - gossip was her secret joy, and there was plenty to go around. Apparently, Valen was spending an awful lot of time with that witch who ran the bathhouse.

Hayden took a sip of coffee. “Good for them. Life’s meant to be shared, isn’t it?” Henrietta watched his warm brown eyes widen. Hayden coughed, and set his coffee down so hard that it sent a spoon flying. The clatter ruffled Henreitta’s feathers, but she smoothed them for his sake. Poor Hayden was blushing enough already.

“That’s why ranching is so rewarding. I’m glad you decided to get a coop - how are the girls doing so far?”

“They’re great. Thanks for setting up the see-saw, it’s been a big hit.”

Henrietta had met the girls once, under Hayden’s watchful gaze. It was clear they needed a strong matriarch, but Hayden scooped her up before her beak could do its work.

That was alright. Henrietta could be patient - they’d be joining her flock soon enough.

After all, Henrietta was nothing if not perceptive. She knew a courtship when she saw one, even if it lacked the usual dropped wing and dizzying dance. The gifts, the fleeting touches, the lingering looks… honestly, she couldn’t understand what they were waiting for.

Once the leaves began to turn, Hayden confided in her. Not just her - Ryis and Valen were there too. They didn’t equal her in wisdom or tact, but such gatherings were good enrichment for humans. She listened politely, and cooed in agreement when Ryis stated the obvious: “Hayden, we know. Everyone knows. You’ve been attached at the hip all summer.”

More blushing. “Why didn’t you say anything?”

Valen shrugged, and swirled her glass of wine. “What’s there to say? We all thought you were already dating.”

Hayden rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, we aren’t. I don’t think so, anyway.”

They all laughed. Or clucked impishly, in Henrietta’s case. Once Ryis recovered, he put a gentle hand on Hayden’s shoulder. “You’d know. The next time you’re together, just speak from the heart. Trust me.”

The four of them were halfway through a fiendish jigsaw puzzle when Errol burst through the front door. Henrietta dropped the piece she was nibbling on and nearly fell off the table in shock - such an entrance!

The man’s face was as white as his beard. He looked absolutely stricken. “Please, come quickly. The mines -”

Henrietta trilled in alarm. Only their semi-retired adventurer would be so foolish. So brave.

The others charged off without her, leaving Henrietta sick with worry. She tore open a bag of premium treats, but the tasty morsels did little to soothe her.

Finally, Hayden returned with Valen and the intrepid patient. Henrietta was ready with a lecture about the dangers of monster hunting, but she received no promises of hanging up the blade. Just a pat on the head, and a crushed berry.

“As your doctor, I can’t advise you to hand feed livestock right now. You’re more prone to infection if she-”

“-she won’t. Here you go, Henrietta. I plucked this off a bush as they were dragging me out of the narrows.”

It was the nicest one she ever tasted.

Naturally, Henrietta was an accomplished nurse. She set to work, nestling at the patient’s feet on the couch while Valen gave Hayden instructions.

“This one has to be taken with food, twice a day. Something simple, like toast.”

Eggs and toast, surely. Henrietta began to doze.

When she awoke a while later, she wasn’t surprised to find another set of feet to warm. The two of them were laying in each other’s arms beneath her favorite checkered blanket.

They were mindful not to disturb her, but Henrietta allowed them their cooing and preening and kissing. Humans were such soft, silly creatures.

And now she had two to look after. Henrietta drifted back to sleep, and added another figurative hat to her collection: matchmaker.

Cassie has become one of my favorite characters in the game. The way she interacts with the MC reminds me a lot of Hayden un Blood Legacies. Which made me thinks she has something for the MC.

I still remember the question of whether MC and Cassie were close pre-vampirism, and seeing her POV. It leaves me wondering why they ended up just acquaintances instead of friends, but maybe she didn't try anything because Taylor.

They have a certain resemblance in some ways 😁 And I tried not to reveal too much in the pov, because some things involving Cassie and mc change more after a while of knowing each other, and she's very observant... 🤐🤐😇 What I can say is that Cassie's antipathy towards Taylor is not recent, and there was one more scene that I intended to bring along with the flashback of the party, but that will be something for another update, maybe this time or next time, we'll see...

It is so weird being an Allison fan and trying to explain that while yes, I hate that she died she just died so well!

Her death had impact. No one forgot her (unlike Erica and Boyd). Her spector loomed large, to the extent that Scott credits her with stopping the beast of Gevaudan.

It's one of the things I love about the show and her arc: yes, she died, and it was sad but it had impact on the characters and on the narrative.

allison's death was one of the reasons i stopped watching the show after 3b. it was a straw on the camel's back for a lot of people.

when i returned to the show a few years later to watch s4 and s5 (still haven't really done s6 yet (☞ﾟヮﾟ)☞) allison's death was one of the few things that carried narrative weight and significance past the seasons she appeared in.

allison still meant something to the characters even after she was gone unlike nearly every other character that had died or left. she had a legacy. she gave them pause. she was the ghost just out of sight.

the promo for season 4 lives in my head rent free because of how well it referenced the loss of a lead character.

lydia's entire character arc in both season 4 and 5 at it's very heart is about the loss of allison and how she failed to prevent it. meredith enacted her plan in season 4 because she heard lydia's death wail for allison. lydia figures out her powers to save malia because malia is going to die and lydia desperately cannot let another person she cares for die. she is desperate to get stiles back after the wild hunt takes him. lydia's love for allison and her friendship with her changed her profoundly from the mean girl we met in season 1.

i think the one unspoken thing that really hangs between scott and stiles in their season 5 divorce is allison's death. was it really about donovan? on the surface yes it was about donovan and theo and the miscommunication but the whole thing had been building a while. the real argument under it was about did scott believe stiles was capable of murder? especially in the way it was being suggested that it was purposeful and in cold blood.

season 5 was the delayed response to the nogitsune possession and how it changed stiles. his temperament, his perspective, fears and drive but it also was about how his loved ones had a changed perspective of him.

scott is forever haunted by allison. his first great love and perhaps something he considers his greatest failure. scott's unreasonable standards to save people achieves new heights after allison's death and it's because he sees himself as having failed to save her so he wants to save everyone to compensate. it's an impossible task with a huge margin of error and high failure rate. it didn't escape my notice that scott wanted to save mason very, very badly from possession from the beast because he couldn't save stiles from the nogitsune, that he bit hayden so liam wouldn't lose her like he lost allison. (it was a bumpy ass ride there though).

hell, one of the realest scenes with kate after her return is that she's grieving allison. as fucked up, as horrible and terrible kate argent is she was devested allison died. allison was the only person kate argent actually loved in her black, black heart.

chris's entire post season 3 arc is all about allison. he's trying to honor her legacy and he's willing to go to great lengths to help the people she loved and laid her life down for.

allison was a flawed person. she made heavy and grave mistakes that led to erica eventually dying. she was reckless and rash. she wasn't perfect. she was trying to reconcile her family's legacy and overcome her own demons but she never got a chance to. she died at 17 trying to save people she cared about but she was loved so deeply by those that knew her.

unlike laura hale who we know nothing about, unlike erica and boyd who are eventually forgotten, isaac is never spoken about again allison gets to have an impact on the narrative. ally a gets to save the day after she's gone and saves scott's life from sebastian valet.

all of this is flawed. it's not perfect because well teen wolf is messy but allison's death and the way she subsequently is still mentioned and that her life and death had lasting consequences is one of the things they did right.

Before Willowshire

On a bitter January morning, the leaders of a nomadic trading skulk welcomed twins. In the midst of a season burdened by hardships and tragedy, the safe arrival of the Fontana kits was cause for celebration. The eldest was a daughter that they named Phoebe and the younger was named Linus, both in honor of relatives lost earlier in the winter. In the case of Linus, he was the namesake of his uncle - his dame's brother. An alpha who bravely sacrificed himself while defending their caravans from hunters. His legacy swiftly became a familiar weight on his nephew's shoulders, but Linus took in it stride with his head held high.

Members of the skulk speculated that the twins would present as Alphas. Both of them were responsible, ready to aid in chore completion and entrusted as babysitters to their younger siblings.  Phoebe would often assert herself as the leader in groups yet if one looked closer, they would see that her brother had her ear. The twins bickered as siblings tend to do but they always reunited and proved themselves as forces to be reckoned with. They valued each other's counsel, watched out for one another, worked well together.

The skulk's prediction was only half correct. When the time came, Phoebe presented as an Alpha. As for Linus? Shock made his blood run impossibly cold when he presented as an Omega. Luckily, this revelation was accepted with open arms and minds.

Unfortunately, the happiness would not last forever. After the skulk had stopped to rest and trade in a village that was recovering from a horrid plague, many of the members fell ill when they resumed their journey. While some eventually recovered, others went on to join Mother Nature in eternal rest. The elder Fontanas - Phoebe and Linus' parents - were among those who were lost due to this devastating illness. As the eldest of their kits, Phoebe stepped up to lead the way.

Not long after assuming the role, she called her twin to the lead caravan one night. The two of them had just turned eighteen and the leadership responsibilities were too heavy a burden for one Fontana to bear alone. Especially while the loss of their parents remained a fresh wound on their hearts. Phoebe asked Linus to join her as co-leader, telling him that he could have all the time to consider his decision.

He only needed a moment before he answered yes.

The skulk continued to thrive under the twins' leadership. Did they make mistakes sometimes, created by inexperience and youthful hubris? Of course they did. They learned from those same errors, growing wise beyond their years as time marched on.

That same maturity did not mean they were immune to becoming love-struck. Phoebe became the mate of a healer who eventually joined their ranks. As for Linus, he fell in love with a bard from a group of travelers. They agreed to temporarily merge their numbers since there surely had to be safety in such a large band of werecreatures.

For months, Linus and the bard - another werefox named Elliot - spent plenty of time together. Elliot called Linus his muse, Linus would have readily fought an entire army if they wished to bring harm to his beloved companion. Eventually, their time together came to an end. Elliot had a village to return to and the skulk had their trade routes. The pair agreed that if Mother Nature was generous enough to reunite them one day, they would take it as a sign they were meant to be. However, before the groups parted ways, Elliot and Linus spent one final night together. Their hearts ached with one of the worst sorts of pain as they whispered their goodbyes early the next morning.

Then Linus started waking up sick. His cool, collected nature would briefly falter during regular conversations and business negotiations alike. He had his suspicions as to what connected these symptoms. Inklings soon confirmed by a healer. Linus was expecting a kit of his own.

He later welcomed a son and decided to name him after the kit's grandfather. Leonardo Fontana. Another safe arrival signaled a continuation of the peace the skulk currently enjoyed. In time, Linus resumed his duties as co-leader and shouldered those along with his commitment to be an incredible parent. Just like his own had been.

And so, the years marched on.

Willowshire

Talk about a village populated by those who escaped the corruption of the Crown had reached the group multiple times. Phoebe and Linus had discussed potentially settling down there in a similar amount of instances. The craving for stability was shared not only between the twins, but among plenty of skulk members. It would be an adjustment since the roads had been the only home these traders had known.

A great deal of them welcomed this change. Some reported that they were eager to try their hands at a new profession. Others shared their newfound fondness for a permanent settlement in comparison to the temporary camps they once set up. Personally, Linus was eager to utilize and heighten his skills in wielding various weapons to help protect the village. This is what led him to join the guards and in turn, pack Blazepelt.

The pack's conservative attitudes rubbed him the wrong way on more than one occasion. However, his frustration was easily remedied with extensive training sessions and he had no other complaints. In time, Linus grew comfortable. He even started to regard Willowshire as home.

New Haven

But Mother Nature saw fit to blindside him once more. This time, he and Leo awoke in an unfamiliar place. There were these fantastical inventions all around and so much had changed. Once he registered that they were in the company of fellow nonhumans, his nerves settled just enough to allow him an opportunity to absorb this ambush of new information.

Apparently father and son had landed in a place known as New Haven. Incredibly, they somehow traveled through time. This modern life does not seem to be lacking in advantages and creature comforts, however it is still a grand exercise in adaptation. Linus would go so far as to say this makes settling in Willowshire seem like a round of target practice.

Linus is determined to maintain a sense of calm as long as he and Leo are here in this strange era. He has remained unsettled due to the list of unanswered questions about this change. There is also a certain anxiety thanks to the inability to do anything other than wait for answers.

For now, he accepted a position as a self defense instructor at the local gym. So far, this has provided him with a welcome distraction. And Linus does enjoy the opportunity to share his knowledge with these new generations. There's a sort of pride he feels while watching the students as they improve and even master these techniques. Plus, Linus feels comforted knowing not all of his skills will become rusty during this time spent in the modern world.

Hopefully it will only be a temporary stint.

He's running after her.

It feels so ordinary and human that it almost throws him for a loop. As if it's something he didn't see himself doing. Yet here he is running after her in the rain. It's a downpour, a terrible thing that is almost deafening. The world feels slowed to a crawl, his long strides carrying him towards her. She's so far. He has to get to her; he has to let her know. His breathing is quickened in a manner which it normally isn't, even in combat he is hardly breathless. She has that effect.

A hand reaches out towards her, fingers stretching out for her. He's getting closer. Does she know he's after her? He doesn't know. It's so loud. It's always loud around them with the bullets, blades, and burst of bombs. He's glad he can think in the heat of the moment, because quiet moments are far and few.

He's soaking wet and his uniform clings to his body, he has no weapons. He is the weapon. Always the weapon. Cocked and ready to be fired. God how many has he killed? He can't focus on that now. Soaked fingers grasp her shoulder, latching on tightly. It might shock her, or she might have the blasé exterior. It doesn't matter because he's touching her. Callous fingertips that have done great evils in the name of great good. How often does he touch her? Not often. As if he might break her.

He spins her around, pulling. His emerald irises meet her veridian ones. He's panting and staring at her. The moment of truth is at hand, he shakes his head blinking. He tries to say what he means to, but it is drowned out by the rain. Finally, he shouts it. Louder than battle.

"You never asked me, why I fight!"

His voice is loud, and it's not the usual disciplined tone she is used to. It's too human. His heart is showing. He's always been passionate, he's just learned to keep it toned down. But here and now, he seems so lively. A mess, an absolute mess.

His other hand reaches out to grasp her other shoulder, his scarred face scrunches up. He swallows, water pouring on both of them. Is this because of the battle tomorrow? Is that what is drawing this out? Is it because he is terrified that his legacy might be nothing but gunpowder and blood?

"Sometimes, I think, maybe- maybe I don't deserve a happy ending! I think maybe we're all too- fucked up!" He has to shout over the rain, it almost drowns him out. He rarely pours his heart out. No. He never does. Does he trust her? Yeah. He trusts her. "I think, sometimes, maybe that's just what I'm meant to be! A fighter! A struggler!" His mouth hangs open slightly, the words stuck in his chest. Before finally he spews them out, letting it flow.

"But then you walked into my life! Helped me be more than that! I don't mean so bullshit like you gave color to my world, I mean you let me make a real difference! I- where I came from I made a lot of bad choices! I lost my way! Forgot who I was meant to help!"

He let's go of her shoulders, and he gestures over shoulder to Rhodes Island. To their base, to those within it.

"If I have to be a fighter, a struggler, then- Alright! I can do that for them! For you! Because even if we don't deserve a happy ending, they do!"

He drops his hand. And he stands there, soaked in the rain. She's also soaked. Is this friendship? Comradeship? Something without words? Maybe. But it's the truth.

He never express truly how grateful he is. But he couldn't go another second without telling her.

Known so far:

The crew was tasked to collect more of the mineral known as “Vesparis” a blue crystal that can give energy to an entire planet by only using a crystal the size of a pea.

The collecting of “Vesparis” was done at a Planet known as “Cessandris”, close to our galaxy known as the Metroway.

But due to faulty conditions of the ship they landed on a unknown planet, now described to be a planet of- “BLUE PURPLE PLANET WHOSE CLOUDS WHICH ARE AS RED AS BLOOD.”

They were stuck in this planet for 8.286 weeks and during this time ASO has sent out multiple searcher ships to look for the lost crew.

The Ardonis Space Organization barely picked up much of Captain Taylin’s space logs due to how isolated this planet was from any space organization ruled planet. Only three were recovered.

The Final Log before the ASO found out it was too late for five of “CRUMBLEWAY”’s crew to be rescued.

Star Commander, Lee Jupiter Taylin has commanded that a small team now known as “Team Rogue” would research, study and investigate what happened to the crew of “CRUMBLEWAY” and see if the lost crew are still alive and can be able to return back home and found dead crew members and return them back home to get a proper burial.

Most notably, to find out who or what has done this.

Much is too be done. As of right now, “Team Rogue” is starting recover more of Captain Taylin’s space logs, two more are almost complete and the creature heard during space log, 058 is being researched.

The Planet known simply as “Rogue” is yet to be discovered but when it does, Star Commanders, Soleil Edna Hatton, Mark Zeke Bondnavist, Hayden Fitzroy Sutherland and Lee Jupiter Taylin gave the command to recover what was lost and to kill whatever has done this.

Reading the other anon ask about MC's situation and duty, it made me truly reflect on how much Hayden's and MC's relationship is based on assumptions (not willingly on some MCs' side). Hayden assumes that MC doesn't like them, that they stricly follow their duty and that they wouldn't support the two lovers. MC assumes that Hayden is actually proud and satisfied about sleeping around (well Hayden almost literally tells them that) and that they are so reckless to end up being stupid. Hope turns off her humanity when the smell of the burning flesh of Roman Sienna happens at his execution. This was something that reminded her of her mother's final moments.

Another Blood Legacies fanart (@bloodlegacies). God. I am just trying to keep my mind off classes starting. This is a picture of Eleazar, Alexandra, and baby MC (Bianca). This is just how I imagine her parents. ❤️ I know it is not the best but my friend really enjoyed it and she is also in love with Blood Legacies. Alexandra sighed, pinching her husband's side. Eleazar didn't even react besides giving her a small glance, which made the painter clear his throat to remind the Lord to look forward to the painting.

Bianca, in the Warriors arms, leaned her head against her father's chest, about to fall asleep. Eleazar narrowed his eyes at the painter, who just seemed engrossed with his work, and Eleazar felt another pinch, however, this time to his buttocks, which made him jump a little.

"What are you doing?" Eleazar hissed toward his wife.

Alexandra only rolled her eyes and kept her eyes on the painter. "Smile. This is a family portrait."

Eleazar retorted back with a little bite. "I don't smile."

Alexandra raised an eyebrow. "Now, my dear, we both know that is a lie. If I remember last night clearly, you smiled quite a lot."

Eleazar didn't reply, but Alexandra saw the faintest touch of red on the tip of his ears. The lady of the house just sighed again.

"Is there a reason you're so stubborn?"

Eleazar pressed his lips together before whispering.

"This will be looked at by our people, our allies."

Eleazar said the word allies with dismay, and Alexandra didn't have to question which "ally" Eleazar was thinking of.

"I want to look strong, not like some soft lord that those thick-headed nobles think they can step on."

There was silence for a long moment before Alexandra spoke up. "You really can't expect to look tough with a baby in your arms, did you?"

Alexandra nodded towards their three-year-old, her curious eyes roaming the walls to look at the painter's other works. Eleazar started to say a retort but was stopped by a look from his wife.

"I don't agree; I understand where you are coming from; however, I will make a deal with you. I want another portrait of us all together when Bianca is older, and I want us all smiling in it."

Eleazar scoffed but just nodded his head after a quick moment. "Agreeable, but it will be a private portrait, not one that we have to send out to the court."

Alexandra stood on her tiptoes and kissed her husband's cheek in thanks, getting a small outraged cry from the painter for moving too much, whom the couple both ignored.

"It could be a present for when she is older, something to remember us by." Eleazar nodded his head in agreement, a soft look in his eyes as he looked at his love before turning back menacingly at the painter, which Alexandra had to hide her smile at.

he was found by elijah mikaelson who tried to heal him without use of vampire blood since he knew the life jeremy had suffered because of the supernatural

his injuries were too severe and elijah was left with no choice but to turn jeremy into a vampire

he became sire bonded to elijah and soon entered a sexual relationship with the original - when it suited the older vampire.

resenting himself for being a vampire - his hunter insticts still at the surface with jeremy turning to alcohol and drugs again to cope.

he was sent away to try and recover and find himself away from mystic falls.

when the twins started to display magic abilities jeremy decided to move back to mystic falls where they could be taught and protected by their family and the salvatore school.
